The magic of moving images is a vital part of documenting memories in an Indian wedding. The WPAI Wedding Video Awards have been designed to showcase your work in front of your peers and judges who are masters in their field. It allows you to demonstrate your work in front of the toughest critiques in India today. WPAI Wedding Video Awards aim to recognise not just excellent wedding filmmakers, but all the critical roles in the team involved in telling a wedding story in the most visually appealing way. The winners will be recognised within the community for their commitment to their craft. WPAI Awards are open for members and non-members both.

WPAI Wedding Video Awards JUDGES

WPAI Awards judges are masters of filmmaking and are invited from across various genres to form a collective jury that represents some of the best talents in the world today. These judges have, in the course of their careers, spent a lot of energy helping younger artists discover their potential and grow their craft. As a WPAI judge, these masters will collectively review the entries sent as part of the contest.

 

Badal Jain

Badal Jain started his career as a cameraperson with NDTV and spent a couple of years freelancing before he finally decided to move into wedding filmmaking along with his brother 16 years ago. His company has shot 500+ weddings world over including of well-known celebrities like Shilpa Shetty, Esha Deol, and Gautam Gambhir to name a few. He has been featured on CNBC as Young Turks with his brother Raja, and other publications like Forbes India, People, and the Wall Street Journal.

Vishal Punjabi

“Nothing is ever lost to us, as long as we remember it.” That’s his zeal to present his artistic way of storytelling. Amongst the forerunners for Wedding Filmmaking in India, Vishal’s work was the first Indian wedding film to enter an international film festival, way back in 2013. Since then, he has scaled great heights, having shot the most elite around the world and setting an example for young wedding filmmakers in India.

Francesco Spiezia

Born and raised in New York City’s West Village, Francesco found himself captivated by his father’s work in film. His self-taught approach helped shape his artistic style and desire to refine the art of digital filmmaking, constantly pushing boundaries and reinventing the craft. Francesco’s inherent talent and unique aesthetic are reflected in every project, clearly standing apart from the industry standard. His clientele includes Eva Longoria, Chelsea Clinton and many more!

Mili Ghosh

Mili was born in Africa, graduated from Canada and moved to Chicago in 2003 to set off both on a career and marriage. She kick-started her filmmaking career with short films and documentaries. In the wedding industry, she has been a vital part of shooting hundreds of the most extravagant affairs including the performances of Bollywood stars, or singers like Shakira, Akon and Adnan Sami rocking the stage. She is known to be a dedicated artist with a great eye for the right shot!

 


ABOUT WPAI Wedding Video Awards

WPAI Awards are a recognition and rewarding system, that recognises excellence in Indian Wedding Filmmaking. These awards will set a gold standard in wedding film-making and help set the benchmark for quality in the years to come. Winning a WPAI award is a testament to the creator’s skill in storytelling and visualisation. WPAI Awards are awarded to individuals forming a filmmaking team (and not just the studio/ producer) i.e. all those involved in executing a film, whom our judges deem exceptional in their originality and/or execution.


AWARD CATEGORIES

WPAI Filmmaker Award
The category awards achievement in the overall execution of the film/trailer. This film/trailer will be rated on overall performance across all category parameters, especially cinematography, editing, music and sound, and visual effects. The winner of this award will go to the director/producer of the film/trailer and the studio that made it.

Sennheiser Sound Award
The Best Sound Award will be awarded to the film/trailer exhibiting the finest or most aesthetic sound design or sound editing. The award category focusses on elements such as location sound, ambient sound, sound mixing, foley, music, and any other element added in the film/trailer to enhance sound quality. This category awards the overall soundscape of the film/trailer. This award will go to the Sound Engineer / Editor who worked on the film/trailer as well as the studio that made it.

Editor Award
Described by Vanity Fair as “the art of putting together a film so seamlessly you never notice it”, film editing involves the art and technique of shot selection, assembling and placing them together in a coherent sequence. The Editor Award recognises films/trailers where the editing process has created meaning, understanding and emotions. The award will go to the Editor who worked on the film/trailer as well as the studio who produced it.

Director of Photography Award
The category awards the cinematographer of the film/trailer with the most visually appealing and creative camera work. It includes everything that can be done with a camera – it’s movement and momentum, the play of light in images, and the visuals it captures. The award will go to the (lead) DOP who worked on the film/trailer as well as the studio who produced it.

Visual Effects Award

This category recognises the most outstanding visual effects in a wedding film/trailer. It can include special/creative effects (morphs, split screens) to smoothen transitions, create drama or enhanced graphics in a film/trailer. The award will go to the VFX artist who worked on the film/trailer as well as the studio who produced it.


PRIZES

  • All winning films/trailers will be showcased on the WPAI Awards Gallery and on our social media channels.
  • Winning a WPAI award is a testament to the quality and skill of the cinematographer; WPAI Award winners will be eligible to carry the “WPAI Award” badge on their winning entries. In addition, there are more fabulous prizes to be won:
  1. The WPAI Filmmaker award winner will take home a FujiFilm XT3 camera kit worth 1,49,999 INR.
  2. The WPAI Filmmaker award winner will also receive an AVX Combo Set by Sennheiser worth 79,900 INR.
  3. The winner of Sound Award will be awarded an AVX MKE 2 Set by Sennheiser worth 67,900 INR.
  4. The winner of Editor Award will receive Monitoring Headphones by Sennheiser worth 6490 INR.
  5. The winner of Visual Effects Award will be awarded Monitoring Headphones by Sennheiser worth 6490 INR.
  6. The winner of Director of Photography Award will receive an MKE – 440 by Sennheiser worth 20,900 INR.
  7. In addition to the above-mentioned prizes, each award winner will also receive a trophy.

RULES

  • The contest is open to both WPAI Members as well as non-members. But as with all WPAI contests, WPAI members will receive entry benefits (see section below).
  • Submissions start October 23, 2018, and the deadline for all entries: Midnight, 30th November 2018. All entries received after this period will be disqualified.
  • Entries must be submitted electronically via the WPAI Awards Entry Page. No other form of entry will be entertained.
  • The film/trailer should not exceed 10 minutes in duration, including titles; credits and opening slide to be inserted. The minimum length should be 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
  • Films/trailers should be from WEDDINGS ONLY (this includes pre-wedding and post-wedding films). It is up to the applicant to decide which category their work best fits into.
  • The panel of judges will review the films/trailers and assign a score to each film/trailer. The highest-ranking film/trailer in each category will be awarded as
 a winner. The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Judges will not have visibility to the videographer’s/company’s/brands name; all they see are the films.
  • You are allowed to enter the same film/trailer across multiple categories. However, each entry per category will be counted as an entry and will be charged accordingly.
  • WPAI accepts films/trailers made and submitted in any Indian language or with no dialogues at all. However, films/trailers made in any other language than English must have English subtitles.
  • Films/trailers produced on or during cinematographic workshops/seminars are not permitted.
  • Films/trailers that contain guns, weapons, violence, 
nudity, or that are in poor taste may be disqualified. The WPAI steering committee will use its discretion to remove such entries.
  • Filmmaking that has been knowingly or subconsciously plagiarized will be disqualified. Copying or emulating a pose, style or concept is not considered plagiarism. Copying a film/trailer where all or 90% of the elements are exactly the same i.e. (theme, cinematography, editing style and special effects, music, script etc.)  may be considered plagiarism if not enough elements are considered different.

Who can enter?

WPAI Awards are open to ALL i.e. members and non-members. In addition, you need to be the original content creator to submit for awards. For example, if you are applying for the “Sound Award”, you need to be the final intellectual property owner of the film/trailer (in most cases, the producer). If you are part of the team who worked on the film/trailer, please encourage the owner of the film/trailer to apply on your behalf. The award in these cases will be both for the technician working on the film/trailer as well as the studio. Please see category information for more details on this.


LIMITS AND FEES FOR MEMBERS AND NON MEMBERS

ENTRY LIMITS (MEMBERS + NON MEMBERS)

  1. You are allowed a maximum of 10 entries, as per the details below.
  2. WPAI Awards allow 5 categories, and you can submit a maximum of 2 entries per category.
  3. A single film/trailer can be entered in multiple categories, but with charge as applicable.

ENTRY FEES (MEMBERS)

  1. WPAI members get to submit 3 films/trailers absolutely free.
  2. Extra submissions will be against an entry fee of INR 999 per film/trailer (inclusive of GST).

ENTRY FEES (NON MEMBERS)

  1. Non-members do not get any free entries, but can still upload 10 entries in total.
  2. Each submission will be against an entry fee of INR 999 per film/trailer (inclusive of GST).

ENTRY SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • Use the entry form below to enter the contest. (Submissions start on 23rd October)
  • Video files are to be bundled in a .ZIP file and uploaded via Google drive link, Dropbox or any link that doesn’t expire. The link to this file must be included in the form. 
  • The film/trailer must be submitted in MP4/MOV format only and in 1080p resolution. We encourage a minimum bitrate of 10 MBPS.
  • The film/trailer must be a minimum of 2 minutes and 30 seconds, and a maximum of 10 minutes in length.
  • The overall size of the ZIP file should not exceed 800 MB.
  • There should be no borders, no logos, no watermarks, and no text but subtitles in the film/trailer. Films/trailers made in any other language than English must have English subtitles.
  • You will need to select how many films/trailers you want to submit (please plan this beforehand!), for which the tool will calculate your total entry fees.
  • You will then be taken to the payment checkout page for payment (online payment only, all major credit and debit cards will be accepted).
  • When your films/trailers are uploaded you will automatically receive an email confirmation of your submission.
  • By entering, the videographer/cinematographer/studio owners/individual acknowledges that they have permission from the clients to exhibit the work.
  • Entrants agree that any entered film/trailer may be used by the WPAI in any of their publications or electronic media for the promotion of the association and it’s members. Due credit, of course, will be given to the winner.
  • Any entries, which do not conform to the rules, will be withdrawn.

PUBLICITY:

By entering the Contest, each entrant grants the WPAI a worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to use the submitted films/trailers to promote the WPAI and its members through the organisation’s public websites and email communications. The copyright for the work remains with the entrant and the WPAI makes no claim to ownership of any work whatsoever.

ENTRANT’S RELEASE:

ENTRANT’S INDEMNIFICATION:

BY ENTERING THE CONTEST, EACH ENTRANT EXPRESSLY AGREES TO AT ALL TIMES DEFEND, HOLD HARMLESS, AND INDEMNIFY THE WPAI FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL THIRD PARTY CLAIMS (INCLUDING REASONABLE ATTORNEYS’ FEES AND DISBURSEMENTS) THAT: (A) ANY SUBMITTED VIDEO INFRINGES ON SUCH THIRD PARTY’S INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS; AND (B) THAT ANY SUBMITTED VIDEO WAS PUBLISHED WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF THE SUBJECT (S) IN SUCH VIDEO.

ENTRY FEES:

All payments made towards the contest are non-refundable. All cases of payment or transaction failure are between the cardholder and the bank only, WPAI will not be responsible for any lost or stuck transactions.

PRIZES:

  1. Email and/or letter will notify the overall winner within 15 days of the closing date. If the winner cannot be contacted or do not claim the prize within 15 days of notification, we reserve the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and pick a replacement winner.
  2. No cash alternative to the prizes will be offered. The prizes are not transferable. Prizes are subject to availability and we reserve the right to substitute any prize with another of equivalent value without giving notice.

POLICIES

  1. WPAI reserves the right to remove or refuse any entries from the competition for any reason.
  2. The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  3. The promoter reserves the right to cancel or amend the competition and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, act of God or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of the promoter’s control. The promoter will notify any changes to the competition to entrants as soon as possible.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY:

  1. THE WPAI IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR AND SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

To the extent that the Contest is offered and administered through the Internet, the WPAI website, and through e-mail, the WPAI shall not be responsible or liable if the Internet, any website, or e- mail, is not capable of properly functioning, for any reason, nor shall the WPAI be responsible or liable for, nor do the WPAI make any representations or warranties regarding: (1) infection of the entrant’s computer or other electronic device by computer virus(es) or other malicious code, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, vandalism, or any other cause beyond the control of the WPAI which corrupts or affects the security, integrity, or proper administration of the Contest; and (2) any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay, faulty transmission or communication, provider failure(s), destruction, or unauthorized access to any Contest activities conducted or information transmitted via the Internet; (3) any technical malfunction of any networks, telephone lines, cable networks, cable lines, on-line Contest upload systems, servers, equipment, or software; (4) any failure to timely receive an entry due to technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet, phone, DSL, or cable lines, or any combination thereof; and (5) any injury or damage to a Contest entrant’s computer or peripheral equipment or software related to or resulting from participation in the Contest.

The WPAI reserves the right to, in its sole discretion, cancels, modify, or suspend the Contest at any time for fraud, technical failures or any other factor beyond their reasonable control that impairs the integrity of the Contest (or a portion thereof), as determined by WPAI in its sole discretion. The WPAI also reserves the right to revoke the prize of any entrant, at any time prior to the publication of such prize-winning video/film, if in the WPAI’s judgment, the entrant acts in a manner that is offensive, harassing, threatening, repugnant, or otherwise unsuitable for the purposes of the Contest or the reputations of the WPAI. The WPAI Filmmaking Contest is conducted in the English language only.

 When do the submissions open, and when is the deadline for entries?

 Submissions will open on 23rd October 2018

 Who Can Enter?

Submissions for the awards are open to all wedding-related businesses based within India. Each submission requires a submission fee of Rs. 999/- (after using three free entries in case of WPAI members)

Do I need to be nominated by someone?

 No, companies or individuals submit their own work – the main awards are based on judging criteria from our judges, not nominations.

 Can I submit more than once?

 Yes, you can submit more than once for a category, or for multiple applicable categories. Each submission must be done separately with its own completed form and the submission fee paid.

 I am making multiple entries; do I need to fill out the form every time?

 No, all of the form data that you enter with your company details will be held in a cookie on your computer. As long as you use the same web browser and do not clear out your cookies, your company data will populate the form.

 I am a wedding industry professional, but I don’t see my category listed, what could I do?

We are currently considering new categories. We would love to hear from you with your suggestions. Please get in touch to let us know your thoughts.

 How do the judges score the entries?

 The judging panel will be judging each of the entries and awarding scores for several areas based on a range of criteria. The judges will not have access to the names of the companies for each submission to avoid any bias scoring.

 Will I be able to find out my score?

 No, entrants will not be able to have access to their score from the judges. However, the winner and finalists for each category will be made public.

 How do I enter?

To enter, simply visit the contest page on our website and then fill out the appropriate details.

I am interested in knowing exactly how the scoring is being done, is this information available?

Scoring by the judges will be based on five separate areas; aesthetics, themes, originality, professionalism and quality. Each of the judges will review all of the information provided from a company (except for their name and contact details) and then score the submission in each of the five separate areas.
